The project

SPL DispenserLit-Sea (pronounced “litsy”) is itsy bitsy literature, or very short stories written by local Seattle Authors. Lit-Sea (“Literary Seattle”) is “an ocean on fire” calling attention to the talent of storytellers in the Pacific Northwest. The Lit-Sea project is just that–a call for stories sparked locally to be fanned into flames across the city of Seattle.

Short Édition, the innovative publishing house of short fiction, in partnership with The Seattle Public Library, invites Seattle-area fiction authors to grow their readership by sharing their best works. Seattle is a Unesco City of Literature, and Seattle fiction authors deserve to be showcased through Lit-Sea!

Via this Lit-Sea platform, authors are invited to submit up to two original short stories of 7,500 characters or fewer, to be considered for placement online and in The Seattle Public Library’s Short Story Dispensers. Previously published stories are welcome, as long as authors have retained the publishing rights to their work.

Short Édition and The Seattle Public Library’s editorial teams will evaluate and place up to 50 good stories by local authors through organic connections in the writing community at large.

If your work is selected, you will be showcased both online at https://seattle-public-library.short-edition.com/ and on two area Short Story Dispensers, located in the main library and at The Station Coffeeshop in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. A ‘local authors’ button will highlight locally-sourced stories for readers.

All works will be eligible for international publication across Short  Édition’s Dispenser park of 400+ units, with the option to be published and paid annually for your work(s).
